DO YOU HAVE A 914?

I want to know about that DEAL

My goal is to inspire other kids my age to chase their dreams

"just Tinkergineer it"

I first got into cars and started saving up for One at age 11 1/2. I didn't know where this project would take me, I knew that it would be an adventure that hopefully will end up with me having an electric car to drive to the beach and go surfing In.

along the way i would like to inspire as many other kids to chase their dreams as well and show them what's possible when they try

Thirteen-year-old Frances Farnam of Tinkergineering in Sierra Madre, California, bought her first car—a ’76 Porsche 914—using the money she made picking grapefruit and vegetables from her garden and selling them at the local farmer’s market.

Recently, she brought the 914 to the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, California, where Director of Vehicle Technology Luis Morales demonstrated the Garage’s 3-D scanning capability.

Farnam and her father Daniel plan to restore the car themselves and convert it to electric before showing it off at “SEMA Electrified” during the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Welcome to Tinkergineering! This winter I bought my first car, a 1976 Porsche 914, with the money I earned from picking grapefruit from the tree at my house. The Porsche is my favorite car of all time and I will be converting it to a electric electric vehicle.

I met many new friends and got to hear some really cool stories along the way. I had to load in the night before as my car can't drive on its own yet and that was a huge highlight for me. I had a quiet moment with Jeff Zwart and he gave me some great advice. I met with Patrick Long who shared his favorite karting story. Mark Brems came out and I was able to share some current progress with him.

Finally, this shell has a snazzy new coat of paint after so much prep. I was so nervous about messing it up (as you can probably tell from the video) but thanks to Anthony, Jessica, Charla, PPG, NCS Single Source, Ted, Julian, E & J Truck Collision, Rino, and Jack at Unicar autobody Pasadena this car was successfully painted by the hands of yours truly!

I had the great opportunity to share my journey again, this time with CNBC.

As you can see in this footage I was trying and trying to cut off the rear axel hub Castle Nut. It too all day. I was careful not to grind any threads too.

Primed, Sanded, and Ready for Paint next!

Learning how to rebuild my 901 Transaxel was super empowering. Hardest thing: Removing the speedo bushing from the tail cone, and removing the snap rings on each gear assembly. Easiest thing: using the right tool to remove the output shaft and having great instructions gave me confidence....

@914electric came to visit my progress so far. I have a bit more clarity now that we talked all these project timelines though. Trying to convert and restore a car at the same time makes things tricky. My mission goal #1 is to finish the restoration first....

Legacy EV! Woah, that was an exciting experience! I learned so much from the course itself, but even more through all the people there! Thank you to Legacy EV for letting me come over and learn from you during my school spring break!

I feel more confident and safer in dealing with HV electricity!

TINKERGINEERING

Thanks for inviting me to my first ever 914World Rally. I have never been to one and cant wait to bring my car to an event someday. I met so many friendly people who shared their stories with me. This is also my first time seeing proper 914's that actually run on their own! I love these cars!

Frances (and my dad - Daniel)

Check out what I learned and see some of the amazing 914's in this rally episode:
